Production Log One: Photography

I took these photos over a number of different days with a range of models with different body types, gender identies, sexualities because, despite the overuse of size 0, white women or toned men as models, the majority of the population does not look like that and would feel unseen if I were to cast purely skinny, white models. Especially with the 16 to 25 year age range, people want to see more diversity within media to help portray different backgrounds.

Set 1:

Robyn Turner-Allen, 17 years old, They/Them

Robyn is one of my closest friends and is one to always enjoy a little gossip, so I knew they would be perfect for the February Front Cover, covering the celebrity gossip portion of my magazine. Gen Z, which is encapsulated in the 16 to 25 year age range, use the phrase "Spill the tea" to mean "Tell me the gossip" so I took these photos in a coffee shop and the Main Coverline will be "Spill the Tea: [fake celebrity name] tells all about a love life in the limelight."

Set 2:

Alicja Turkiewicz, 17 years old, She/Her

Alicja is a fashion icon, serving incredible outfits everyday and brings confidence to whatever she wears, so I knew she would be a perfect contender for a debut magazine about confidence in fashion and identity. She 100% has the creative spark to create a line of fashion so she is playing a fashion designer who's new winter line has taken the fashion industry by storm.

Here are the top choice for a front cover picture:

I took many more photos but most were blurry, had movement, or were too far away that when you zoomed in, you couldn't see the detail clearly, so I've only presented the top 4.

Set 3:

Emily Barton, 28 years old, She/Her

Emily is one of my friends who is actually working on writing her own book series so I immediately knew she would end up being an "established author" within my magazine. I decided to take some photos of her both inside and outside, in stylish, aesthetic places and in a Waterstones.

I also had my older sister take some behind the scenes photos whilst I worked.

Set 4:

Woods Warren, 19 years old, He/Him

Woods is my longest standing friends and is also transgender so we brainstormed together that we would create a story that would reflect himself and his identity.

Set 4:

Brackyn, 18 years old, They/Them

Brackyn isn't comfortable with showing their face in photos so we decided that they would play a model for some clothing adverts present on the website.

Set 5:

The Extras

These are the photos that didn't have their own dedicated photoshoots, the ones that were needed to help pad out the website for advertisements and the like. These were photos from my camera roll and those that I went out and took specifically for this work.
